If you're looking for an automated routing system, then you're looking for BusRouter GIS™.
With over six years in the making, BusRouter GIS™ was developed to fully automate the routing process. You provide the students, where they need to be, and when they need to be there or leave, and BusRouter GIS™ provides the routes.
Together with equipment needs and special student information that drivers should be made aware of, routes are provided on an "electronic route book" for the drivers, with "text-to-speech" technology for a handsfree solution. Using the integrated barcode scanner or touch-sensitive screen, the driver can also record the student boarding or disembarking the bus. This information, along with inspection and vehicle data, is returned to the central database for further automation and reporting. The data is carried completely through the cycle of planning, implementation, and reporting.
BusRouter GIS™ is built on high-end, quality components. We selected
ESRI as the base GIS platform and
Microsoft SQL Server as the database back-end. With
NavTeq map data as a source of GIS data, you will have quality mapping data with which to route, yet also be able to update your GIS data as desired with ESRI's suite of software products.
The result is a comprehensive, automated, intelligent, transportation & GIS system for K-12 educational districts, providing a fully automated routing, student tracking, and reporting system as well as a complete GIS solution for an entire district.
Communication between vehicles and the base is accomplished with two-way radio components, avoiding the popular yet costly nature of cellular technology. Working with
Kantronics, an industry leader in data radio communications for over 30 years, Software Perfection can provide a total solution without monthly cellular fees.
Other products also advertise "automated" routing, but it is important to distinguish what we mean by "automated" versus what others may mean by "automated." Our opinion is that these other "automated" solutions require significant labor and focus extensively on user interface niceties, providing route assignment, drawing and redrawing capabilities, expanding and providing even more things for personnel to work on, and ultimately "automatically" create driving directions. These tools continue to expand in an effort to reduce workload with such features as allowing routes to be reviewed, corrected, duplicated, reassigned at different times, recreated as new routes and run backwards once problems were corrected in an initial route, and so forth. This might be acceptable for regular education routes, but not necessarily for special needs routes, which for some districts can change every week or even every day. We chose a different approach. The easiest, most convenient, trouble-free user interface is one that isn't even necessary. We feel that an automated solution means that very little, if any, user intervention is required in the daily use of the system. Therefore, our solution can port your data from your systems automatically into our database structure. From there, we automatically create your routes for you, which includes the entire process of creating the route, assigning a vehicle to the route, and assigning students to the vehicle.
As long as the data is accurate, the drivers can arrive in the morning, pick up their electronic route book, drive their route, and return. You can recreate your routes every single day if you wish, simply with a click of a button, and we can even automate that, eliminating even that click. In fact, we offer a parent call-in system that enables parents to indicate their child(ren) won't be riding the bus at various times, so you can recreate routes daily, eliminating stops and possibly entire routes, depending on who is and who is not riding. The results from driving the routes, along with inspection data, is returned to the central database. Reports can be generated, reviewed, and management can better track the organization's assets and functions. Our solution can result in less vehicle wear and tear, lower fuel costs, lower vehicle emissions, lower labor workload, and more attention to solving problems that arise every day, along with tools to better assist you in solving those problems.
Our system is scalable. While we provide a complete solution, our GIS-centered system with an enterprise-level database engine empowers not only the transportation department, but the entire district with GIS and database connectivity capabilities. If your district is already using GIS technologies, our system can supplement it. If your district wants to start using GIS technologies, we can help you grow into them. With our solution, you can grow and expand your capabilities beyond what's "in the box."
Our system does require quality data and quality components to accomplish these tasks. A key feature of our system is that once a problem is corrected, it stays corrected, because the problem is solved at the source of the problem (the mapping data), as opposed to the symptom of the problem (ie: a route with driving instructions that wasn't created properly). Our solution provides mission-critical automation. Therefore, our entire solution is based on quality data and components. Shouldn't yours be?
